Data status
Every number on UK Explained comes from an official source. This page shows when each one was last fetched, and what we know about its limits. This site was last built on 2026-10-04.
When each dataset was fetched
Most datasets are fetched every night. Each one is checked before the site is rebuilt: if a check fails, the site keeps yesterday’s version.

What the nightly checks look at
- Every vote has a stored result and the named votes roughly match the published totals.
- Spending by function adds up to total spending, and borrowing, receipts and population are in a sensible range.
- Every constituency is matched to its pay, jobs and election figures.
- NHS area figures add up to roughly the England total.
The checks are in scripts/check.py in the site’s open code.
Known limits
- Subjects for votes are matched automatically from the words in a vote’s title, so they are approximate.
- Money figures count the whole UK public sector and are in cash terms: they are not adjusted for rising prices.
- Latest-year spending figures are outturn estimates and can be revised by the Treasury.
- Pay and claimant figures are published for constituencies by the ONS, with a delay of several months.
- MP expenses come from a file a person downloads from IPSA, so they update only when someone re-imports it.
- Plain-English bill descriptions are written with an AI tool, then checked and approved by a named person before they appear.
- Where a source is missing or fails a check, the site keeps the previous day’s version rather than showing wrong numbers.
