Who runs this
UK Explained turns public data into plain English: government money, public services, your area and Parliament. It states what the record shows and never guesses at motives.
Who is behind it
UK Explained is an independent project. It turns official public figures into plain English, and a named person reviews the wording of every bill description before it is published.
Why it exists
Official figures on government money, public services and Parliament are public, but they sit in spreadsheets and jargon. UK Explained exists so that anyone can see what the numbers say, where they come from and what they cannot tell you, without needing to be an expert.
How it is funded
UK Explained currently has no adverts, no trackers and no paywall, and is paid for by its editor. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.
Independence
UK Explained is not funded, directed or edited by any political party, campaign group, polling company or news organisation. Every figure comes from an official source named beside it, and mistakes are corrected in public.
Correction log
We fix mistakes in public. A correction is any wrong number, wrong label or misleading sentence. We aim to fix them within two working days, list each one here with the date, and keep the old figure in the log so you can see what changed.
No corrections have been published yet.
